Northern Pike, like the muskie, are either loved or hated by fishermen. Many fishermen love to catch "northerns" under the ice. Given the proper habitat, northern pike can reproduce in Illinois. In general, ponds do not provide this habitat. They should be stocked only in larger ponds and lakes that can support a top predator. Stocking rates are 5-10 per acre. Available only during the Fall harvest season.
